Moto Guzzi

This is the sort of motorcycle I like:

Its not a cruiser or a sport bike - it's a standard model. But funny enough, there are hardly any bikes around like this any more. This one is "new" for 2009 I think, and it comes in 2 colours I know of - white or black. Attach a nice sidecar to this and I would be totally happy. :D

One thing I find hard to understand is the old tech that they still use. Carbs... Really? A lot of bikes aren't Fuel Injected. The Guzzi is apparently FI which is good. I'm not so sure I really like the engine heads sticking out like that. I feel like my legs would get burnt.

I kinda like naked bikes too but I seem to like the more aggressive looking ones like the Honda 599 or 919 or the Suzy 650 without the fairing on the head light (they seem to have added some in newer ones.) Although adding a hack to these models seems like an odd thing because of the frame. The engine is basically part of the frame instead of the old style tube frame.

BMWs are nice and all but they have that squid/wonky eye headlights which I'm not really enamored with.

Hi Rob, how are things?

There are carbureted ed bikes being made brand new that are state-of-the-art 1940s, in the case of all the BMW R-75 clones being made by Russian and Chinese companies. Another thing might be a resistance to change on the part of the user base, cause they like being able to tweak their engines without a laptop. I can only guess.

Regarding the legs and the Moto Guzzi engine heads - I'm not quite as tall as you are, haha. I don't think it'd be a problem for me.

Those naked bikes are pretty tough looking customers, but they're in the 12k-15k dollar range instead of 10k. Also a bit more power than I am comfortable with. None of them have that old style 70s look either.

There's a new BMW sport bike out with an asymetrical look and price tag, the S1000RR, is that the one you're talking about? You can imagine that the insurance rates on it will still be pretty high though, being a litre bike, a super sport, and top it off with a BMW theft premium.
